Body-Mind Options For Fulfillment and Liberation - Tips For Freeing Yourself to Go Forward!

By Eve Siegel

What keeps you from taking the first action steps that lead to a glow of satisfaction in your life? What makes you sell yourself short and not go for more-- more creativity, more depth, more connection, more passion, more personal autonomy-- whatever is your heart's desire? What helps you break free of stuckness and limitation, and go forward towards what you really want? A certified life coach offers body-mind based tips and a professional vignette showing how to move out of stuckness and into the freedom to take your first step towards the life you truly want.

Living Well & Fully--
Honoring Your True Self in Everything You Do!

Eve"To thine own self be true"-- a top quote from Shakespeare's play, Hamlet, but what does this mean to you and how you want to live your life? What opens for you when you honor your "own self"? What are the consequences if you do not?

In my work as a life coach and body therapist, these are the questions that everyone I see reaches eventually, because the need to be true to who you really are is at the heart of realizing your true aspirations. As I discussed in the October issue of this newsletter, if you live on purpose, the goals you set and choices you make will flow from your heart and manifest with ease.

One of my clients, for example, a pleasant, responsible woman in her early 60's, wanted to plan for her retirement, which was coming up in a few years. Alexandra had been working as a business manager for a large company for over fifteen years, and was looking forward to retirement so she could pursue her dream of becoming an artist. For her, the most vital aspect of coaching turned out to be exploring her personal values (what makes life worth getting up for each day). Her top values of "beauty," "creativity," and "truth" convinced her that her true self was inherently an artist. Therefore, when she tried setting goals to "become" an artist in three years, she felt ungrounded, physically tense, upset, and dispirited. Both her body and spirit rebelled from putting off the awareness that she already was an artist-- here and now!

Using movement, visualization, and body awareness practices in our coaching sessions, Alexandra learned to embrace her identity as an artist, recalling the many ways in which she had spontaneously turned to painting, drawing, and collage work from childhood on. With this new sense of who she really was, her evolving goals reflected the ways in which she wanted to revisit the meaning of "work" in her life. She began to understand that work, for her, needed to include time to paint and do collage-- on her own, in classes, and, ultimately, developing a business of her own. Despite a full-time job and family life, she built in regular time to be her artist self with meditation, creative play, plus her other artistic activities.

As Alexandra began to live out her values of beauty, creativity, and being true to herself, she became happier, more confident of her life path, and therefore, fulfilled. The huge learning for her was that she did not have to retire to be who she was-- she only needed to claim it. Then she could move into a flow of action that was meaningful and inspiring for her. Her latest, heart-centered goal is planning a small business handpainting cards for special occasions.

How are you honoring your true self? It is my pleasure to support people in designing and manifesting heartfelt lives that feel successful and uniquely theirs. Please contact me for a free consultation, and we'll discuss how I can help you in creating yours.

With many warm wishes for living the life you were born to lead,

Eve

"Serendipity, coincidences, surprises: these are the universe smiling at you, giving signs and encouragement about how you are honoring your true self. Frankly, when life feels super hard, it may be a message that some precious part of you is being pushed too hard or neglected. When you get connected and congruent with what is right for you and makes you feel good and nurtured, there is energy present, and flow. You know when you're there, because your smile emanates from a very deep place."

Resource of the Month

Getting to know yourself well and being able to handle life's many choices and demands may sometimes benefit from seeking support from professional life coaching, somatic (body) therapy, and/or psychotherapy. In my experience as a certified life coach and body therapist, I have come to know some extraordinary psychotherapists who have provided the deep empathy required for people to heal personal, interrelational, and/or trauma-based issues. For some, psychotherapy can provide the emotional support and preparation needed for action-oriented life coaching or the "felt" experiences of body therapy. In fact, a number of people have come to me for life coaching or body therapy after or during psychotherapy, when they felt ready for a next level of action or healing.

I have been most fortunate in being able to learn from and share clients with the dedicated, vibrant psychotherapists that I will occasionally feature in Changing Your Life News. This month, I would like to introduce Lisa Bonta Sumii, LCSW, who is a delightful, dynamic, cross-cultural therapist and advocate for personal empowerment and healthy, interpersonal connection . . . .

Lisa Bonta Sumii, LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) is a psychotherapist of Filipina and Caucasian descent currently in private practice in the Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland, CA. She works primarily with clients of color, especially mixed-race adults and teens, interracial couples, and parents of mixed-race children. "I especially enjoy helping new parents, as well as young adults coping with life's transitions. It is really wonderful to see people learn to handle relationship issues skilfully, as well as manage stress and anxiety, with therapeutic support (including mindfulness practice) that helps them become aware, connected, and empowered."

Lisa has also had over 14 years of experience serving San Francisco's homeless youth, chronically mentally ill adults, Juvenile Justice-involved youth and their families, foster care youth, and multicultural families. She has stayed committed to the community at large by serving as clinical consultant, providing trainings on such topics as mixed-race identity to various non-profit agencies in the San Francisco Bay Area.

You can reach Lisa for a free phone consultation at 415-254-0149.
