What People Are Saying

"The Courage of the Seed"

All the buried seeds
crack open in the dark
the instant they surrender
to a process they can't see.

Eve's Specialties

Life Coaching

I specialize in coaching that helps professionals get off the treadmill-- and re-create their lives with confidence, clarity, and passion!  In our work together, my clients are inspired and supported to make satisfying personal and professional changes in unique, creative ways, while balancing the many-faceted demands of their lives.  My 20+ years' experience as a somatic therapist gives the professionals I work with extra help staying connected to their energy and aliveness for making successful changes & life transitions.

  • attract, re-vision or enhance jobs and careers to counteract burnout and connect with a more authentic way of living
  • create more space for yourself-- or for yourself and the people and activities you value-- by learning to commit to choices that matter
  • renew health & fitness by getting in touch with what you makes you feel energized and alive
  • plan for personal renewal and fulfillment by leading a life in balance

Body-Energy Sessions

On its own-- and in conjunction with coaching-- body-energy work is for people who want to move with greater ease and depth through life transitions and challenges. By developing body-energy awareness through conscious touch work and movement, you will learn to feel and embody your energy for action and change-- an integral aspect of bringing your goals to life and fulfillment!

Note: For survivors of sexual abuse and other trauma, I also offer safe, focused, body-based work that helps relieve the effects of trauma and supports dealing with professional and personal life transitions.

Living Fulfilled-- Finding Time for What Matters Most!

Eve      In his ground-breaking book, Transitions, William Bridges describes the process of making changes as three-fold-- "endings," "beginnings," and the part he calls "the neutral zone" or "fertile emptiness." This last area is when you find yourself disengaging from your usual activities, a time of contemplation, just being who you are in the moment, when there is an impulse in you to leave something with which you're familiar. In coaching people through transitions, I've come to see how crucial this process is to making changes that have meaning and lasting impact. Only by going deeply within yourself, can you come face to face with what is really important to you-- and what you truly wish to do and manifest in the world.

Many successful professionals I've worked with who were dissatisfied with their work situations and wanted to make a change tended at first to rev up their energy, pursue networking, and look for other positions similar to what they already had. Rather than explore what might be more satisfying, they were likely to think of going for other jobs with comparable training requirements and benefits. In certain external ways, it makes sense to go for what you know. However, the heart of true change that lets you create a big enough life for yourself requires time to open wider and go deeper than perhaps you ever have before.

A very compelling example of this is a young woman who responded to a discussion question I posed in my Stanford University alumni group on LinkedIn about what motivated people to change to more fulfilling careers. She was an engineer who was dissatisfied both with her profession and her position and not sure what to do next. Then she was, literally, stopped short by a motorcycle accident and couch-bound for several months.

During this time, she lost her position and had plenty of time to consider what she really wanted to be doing with her life. What was important to her, she acknowledged, was service to others where she could see the outcome. In addition, she liked to be physically active, very engaged with her work, and learning new things regularly. When she was able to get around again, she explored new options, one of which was significantly different. Her new career-- being part of an ambulance team with Emergency Medical Services-- meets almost all her requirements for work that is fulfilling to her. In addition, she now probably understands far better the value of taking the time to explore inside herself before launching into a new direction.

This experience of going inward is contrary to most of the advice people receive for making career changes-- or for understanding how changes in relationships, for example, can impact how you're doing and feeling about your career. Therefore, I'd like to remind you that having support for this new period in your life is vital. Whether it's a trusted family member, friend, coach, or mentor, having someone to talk to and champion you during this time can make all the difference.

As an experienced coach, I help people gain clarity and confidence in going through a career or other important life transitions. I offer free sample coaching sessions and lively tele-classes (see below) that make it easy for you to experience immediately how much coaching can offer you!

With warm wishes,

 Tips For Growing Your Life

Calling Forth Change by Doing Less

Below are a few of William Bridges' suggestions (with my annotations) for fully participating in the "neutral zone" experience from his book, Transitions. I also call this space the "chaos zone" because of the uncharted terrain you can find yourself in when you are starting to feel change happening. So it can be very useful to have some structures in place to help you stay centered and connected to the process of learning more about who you really are and what you really want to be doing in the world. This is a time just to let flow from you whatever wants to move forth. There is nothing to do or try for. Just allow and let be.

  • Find a regular time and place to be alone. Before you can talk things over with others and make plans, you need to have time to listen to the cues from your own intuition. Meditation, solitary walks, and personal creative activities are all possible ways to stay attuned to the messages from your body and spirit.

  • Keep a journal of what you're feeling and experiencing during this time. You may find themes or topics that keep arising that feel important and that call to you.

  • Consider what you really want-- in the moment, with your senses, in your relationships, with work. If you knew what you really wanted, what could change for you now?

  • Imagine what you would most regret not having lived in your life if it ended today. This can be a profound call to something deep inside yourself that wants to be acknowledged as something vital to your wholeness and well-being.

Upcoming Tele-class

What Is It to Maximize Your Work Satisfaction?

In early October, I initiated a discussion for the Linked In group for Stanford University Alumni about job and career satisfaction that evoked many interesting responses. I drew on a quote by psychologist Jonathan Haidt, author of The Happiness Hypothesis, that begins: "If you can engage your strengths [what you like to do best & how you like to be], you'll find more gratification in work."

This tele-class will continue that conversation in a lively, informal way as we explore the nature of work satisfaction in terms of your life values and aspirations. It is particularly for people who would like to make a change in the quality of how they work and what they want to be doing with their lives. Join us for a fun group discussion and coaching exercises that will open your minds and offer new perspectives on a topic of perennial interest!
